"Paris 2.0"

From the moment you enter Cafe Luxembourg, you half expect everyone to be speaking French. That is how authentically Parisienne the atmosphere and the aromas are!
The menu does not, however, adhere strictly to the old school bistro fare. There is no pâté en croûte. But there are some familiar favorites like duck liver mousse and frisée salad. Many dishes are updated versions of standards with seasonal ingredients.
Nothing "cutesy" or "precious " just good quality and ample portions of well prepared dishes. Service is excellent, they never hover but dishes and glasses magically appear and reappear. Every need is anticipated before you need to ask. Do try to make advanced reservations so you won't be disappointed or be waiting for those of us enjoying our meal to finish. There is a lovely bar, however, so have some oysters and champagne while your waiting. Bon Soiree!

"Great day after all!"

What started out as a kind of a bummed out day with a bunch of unexpected closed museums (we went on a Tuesday into the city and apparently that's not a good day to go if you want to check out some of the smaller museums, like the Whitney). BUT it was all redeemed when we sat down at Cafe Luxembourg after a long day at the Metropolitan Museum.

They have a varied menu with something for everyone, the meat lover with steak frites, to seafood, to some veggie options. They also have a fixed price option with any appetizer and entree (with an up-charge for certain entrees, like their steak). I decided to do that with the octopus for my appetizer and the seafood pan roast for my entree.

I've had octopus at several other places and it's always come out pre-cut so I REALLY appreciated the presentation here with the octopus intact, beautifully laid out on a chickpea salad. It was probably the most tender and well-season octopus I've had, and I've had a lot of octopus. The seafood pan roast was also good, it came out with stuffed squid, some mussels, and a white fish filet, all served over a squid ink sauce. Everything was fresh and delicious. The food was so great, I was persuaded to get dessert (creme brûlée) and was not disappointed.

We showed up around 6:00pm or so without a reservation and were seated with the condition that our table would be needed in about 1 hour and 45 minutes which was plenty of time for a slow and enjoyable meal. Definitely would go back!

"Cafe Luxembourg remains a superior UWS restaurant"

The food, service and ambiance are always outstanding. And, there is a always something fun about the restaurant. Everyone is quite cheeful and friendly. But it's more than that. How can you explain "fun" except to say it exists? Love going there for any meal of the day!

"Solid, dependable and great food"

I have been dining at Cafe Luxembourg for about a dozen years and I have never had a bad meal here. They have a nice ambiance and good service without being obtrusive. They always ask if you have to get to a show, which is appreciated since we normally eat here before going to the opera. I recommend it to all my family and friends because it is always a solid dependable restaurant with great food.
