“Still going strong”

I have been coming here for more than 30 years and still like it so much that I recommend friends that plan to visit New York to go there. I know the place from the eighties when I lived in NYC. The ambiance is unchanged and nice. The food is still great and the staff is young, friendly, super helpful, well organized and fun. I hope to come here for another 30 years

Visited this place while doing a home exchange on the upper west side. I felt there were a number of locals in the place. Had a very good non-touristy feel. LA (where we were traveling from) doesn't have enough traditional French restaurants, so this was a pleasure. We had the roasted chicken, country salad and octopus. All were excellent. Especially the octopus, which we order wherever we go. Wished that we could have had more time in NYC to go again and try more items! Couldn't get a reservation until 9:00 pm, but we like eating later when visiting New York. The pricing was about what I would expect.

“A little bit of the Left Bank on the West Side”

If you're a nostalgic Francophile, or you need a little taste of Paris in your life, but don't want to fly across the Atlantic, then visit the Cafe Luxembourg located on West 70th Street, just off Amsterdam Avenue. Except for the New York accents surrounding you, the food and ambiance will transport you to Paris, sans surly waiters.

After an apéritif of Kir Royale, the Steak Tartare was a delicious first course, as was the Duck Liver Mousse. They were followed by Moules Frites and Fish and Chips. For dessert we shared a Cashew/Chocolate tart, topped off with coffee. A perfect meal in a perfect setting; you can go home again!

“Pleasant meal in a friendly neighborhood restaurant”

I made the choice of Luxembourg Cafe based on its very favorable reviews and its proximity to Lincoln Center, where we had 7pm opera tickets. We found out from an early afternoon call that there had been a mix up in reservations and that they had us down for the past Saturday. They handled it in a smooth and friendly way and assured us when we arrived that they were glad to make the chance. So, they started off with points for that! We had a 5 person party and were served in a friendly manner, speeded up at our request. My husband and I actually split an order of Steak Frites, which was a good choice for us. Would happily return.
